The Klippan Nature Preserve is a true old forest, with many spruce trees exceeding 150 years. Stony paths and exercise trails run through the area leading to the remains of a centuries old croft. Wandering in the preserve feels like a walk in another time. The trees stretch their straight trunks to the sky and the ground is covered by thick mossy rugs.
The forest is left to its own concerns from seed to grand great spruce and to their final rest on the soft moss. To the benefit of various organisms there is no human pedantry tidying up dead trees. Many insect species find their homes in the dead trees and in turn attract hungry birds.
The Klippan croft has been in the same family since the early 1700s up to 1977. That’s when Knut Valdemar Johansson died after cultivating the fields together with his sister Margit Sofia after the death of their. Neither had any children, thus ending an epic period.
